DAMAGE OF CLUTCH KITS DUE TO OVERLOAD ON CLUTCH

BACKGROUND

How may often we do a change of clutch ?

However, we rarely pay attention to the cause wear of the clutch. Actually we can analyze one of the causes seen from wear conditions on the driven plate, intermediate plate, pressure plate and flywheel. Clutch is a connecting mechanism between the engine and transmission so that power transfer occurs smoothly. Clutch not only works when there is a speed change, but also when the vehicle is running as a transfer of energy from the engine to the wheels.

There are many causes of abnormal clutch damage, one of which is: overload on the clutch (overload). Excessive load on the clutch will cause overheating on the surface of the driven plate and flywheel, pressure plate or intermediate the plate. Overload or overload is not always caused by a load that exceeds the limit, but can also be caused by road conditions (extreme uphill) and incorrect operator operating habits (driver habit).

The figure below shows the wear that occurs on the flywheel and pressure plate due to from overloads.

One of the signs that we can see is the presence of iron powder attached to the driven surface plate at the outer end of the circle. In the condition of the driven plate surface which is not too severe it will be able to through wear was found on the outside of the disc the clutch.

How can this happen ?

The pressure plate pressure system on the largest clutch system is on the outside from the disc, in order to obtain the largest sliding torque. When the vehicle is overloaded and climb there will be sliding. Strong pressure on the clutch disc causes pig iron powder due to flywheel or pressure plate wear. Iron powder and disc powder the clutch will be thrown outward due to the centrifugal force and trapped in the clutch disc part the outermost circle of the driven plate, this is characterized by the appearance of iron filings on the disc surface clutch. The presence of iron powder on the outer surface of the clutch disc causes wear which is more aggressive against the flywheel or pressure plate.

One of the signs that we can see is the presence of iron powder attached to the driven surface plate at the outer end of the circle. In the condition of the driven plate surface which is not too severe it will be able to rough wear was found on the outside of the disc the clutch.

Notes 

Damage to the driven plate, pressure plate, flywheel and intermediate plate due to clutch overload as described above, is not a material defect and cannot be submitted as a warranty.
