Valeo Accelerates Its EV Thermal Offer

A New-to-Range Launch for the European Market

Valeo is launching its new range of NOx sensors, designed to meet the growing demands of modern emission management systems. Comprising 100 new-to-range references on the European market, this comprehensive lineup is built to deliver the precision and reliability that today’s workshops and distributors require.
The new references also complement Valeo’s existing sensor portfolio and reflect the company’s deep understanding of European fleet composition across a wide variety of makes and models.

Extensive Coverage for Passenger Cars in Europe

With coverage of more than 40 million passenger cars in Europe, Valeo enables distributors and workshops to respond effectively to market needs. This breadth of coverage means fewer gaps in the catalogue and greater confidence that the right part is always at hand whatever the vehicle.

The function of a NOx Sensor

A NOx sensor is an electronic device that measures the concentration of nitrogen oxides (NO) in the exhaust gases of internal combustion engines, primarily diesel engines. It is used to monitor and optimize the performance of the exhaust aftertreatment system.
The combustion in vehicles produces Nitric oxide (NO), which converts into Nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) when mixed with oxygen (O) at high temperatures. NO₂ is a harmful air pollutant.
NOx sensor works in combination with the (SCR) system to reduce the influence of NO₂ pollution.

Technology Designed for Performance and Durability

Valeo NOx sensors have been developed with particular attention to resistance to engine vibrations and high temperatures. These characteristics guarantee optimal performance, even in demanding operating conditions a critical requirement given the extreme environment in which exhaust aftertreatment components must function.

Compatible with Euro 6 vehicle applications, they are a key component of exhaust gas management systems. Euro 6 vehicles have at least one NOx sensor, before and after the SCR catalytic. As global emissions regulations continue to tighten, the need for sensors that can keep pace with increasingly strict standards has never been greater. Valeo’s engineering expertise ensures this new range is not only compliant today, but built with the future in mind.

How the NOx Sensor System Operates

The upstream NOx sensor continuously monitors the NOx content of the exhaust gas and sends a signal to the Engine Control Unit (ECU). The ECU then calculates the precise urea dose required to neutralise the NOx within the SCR catalyst. The urea injector sprays this calculated amount into the hot exhaust stream, triggering a chemical reaction that converts NOx into harmless nitrogen and water.

A downstream NOx sensor verifies the efficiency of this SCR reaction by measuring NOx concentration after the catalyst, allowing the ECU to adjust urea dosing in real time and maintain emissions within regulatory limits. In some applications, a single NOx sensor positioned after the SCR catalyst may be used.

Road-Tested for Real-World Reliability

Valeo NOx sensors are road-tested during 700 hours according to real driving situations to validate the reliability of the sensors. This is not laboratory testing in isolation it reflects the genuine demands placed on sensors during everyday operation across a wide range of conditions and duty cycles.

Every sensor in the range undergoes thorough validation to confirm it meets the demands of real-world driving, ensuring the robustness and long-term performance that workshops and their customers depend on.

Concrete Benefits for Professionals and Drivers

The Valeo NOx sensor range delivers a compelling set of advantages:

High-precision real-time measurement for optimal emissions control

Strategic component of modern engine emission control systems

Continuous improvement to meet ever-changing global emissions standards

Tested to exacting quality standards, ensuring robustness, reliability, and long-term performance

Valeo: A True Service Partner for Workshops

Beyond the product itself, Valeo is a true partner for workshops a one-stop-shop supplier with over 2,000 sensors in its portfolio. Valeo supports professionals with comprehensive solutions that go beyond the part itself, including:

Dedicated technical support from specialists who understand the product and the application

Expertise to facilitate installation and maintenance, helping workshops work efficiently and correctly first time

Quality and Reliability at the Heart of Valeo’s Commitment

Valeo NOx sensors are tested to exacting quality standards, ensuring robustness, reliability, and long-term performance. With this new range, Valeo is reinforcing its commitment to provide innovative, reliable solutions that comply with current and future environmental requirements.

As emissions legislation continues to evolve, Valeo remains focused on equipping the aftermarket with the products and knowledge needed to keep vehicles compliant, efficient, and on the road.

For more information on the Valeo NOx sensor range, visit valeoservice.ae

Spring Clean Your Car: Get Ready for the Road with Valeo

Whether you're planning a weekend getaway or just preparing for the warmer months, Valeo has you covered.

Follow this spring cleaning guide to ensure your car is safe, clean, and ready for any adventure.

1. Check Your Wiper Blades for Clear Visibility

Over time, wiper blades can wear out, leading to reduced visibility during rain. If the rubber is cracked or worn, they won’t clear your windshield properly, increasing the risk of impaired vision.

Fortunately, wipers are quick and easy to change. Visit your local garage or do it yourself. Don’t forget to check your screenwash levels and refill them if needed.

Valeo Tip: For optimal performance, choose Valeo Silencio™ wipers, designed for durability and perfect fit.

2. Test Your Lights for Safe Driving

Lights are essential for visibility and safety on the road. Before setting off, check all your lights, including:

Brake lights

Headlights (low and high beams)

Fog lights

Reverse lights

Indicators

Ensure that all bulbs are working correctly, and replace any that are dim or faulty. Properly functioning lights make you more visible to other drivers and help you see clearly at night.

3. Inspect Your Brakes for Safety

Your brakes are one of the most crucial safety features of your car. Make sure they are in top condition by having a trusted mechanic check the brake pads and discs for wear. Additionally, check your brake fluid levels:

A low fluid level may indicate a leak or worn brake pads.

The fluid should be a light golden brown color.

Brake fluid should be changed every two years.

Properly maintained brakes ensure you can stop safely and control your vehicle’s speed, giving you peace of mind on the road.

4. Check Essential Fluids for Smooth Driving

To keep your car running smoothly, make sure the following fluids are at the right levels:

Engine Oil: Ensures proper lubrication and prevents engine wear.

Coolant: Prevents your engine from overheating.

Check these fluids 2-3 times a year or before any long journey to avoid breakdowns and ensure optimal performance.

5. Inspect Your Tyres for Safety and Fuel Efficiency

Properly maintained tyres improve handling, reduce fuel consumption, and enhance safety. Before heading out on a road trip:

Check tyre pressure according to the manufacturer’s recommendations (usually found on the driver’s door frame).

Inspect tyre tread for wear and replace tyres if they are worn out.

Ensure your tyres are less than 5 years old, as rubber degrades over time.

Tyre Pressure Tip: Remember that your car's load and road type can affect tyre pressure. Adjust accordingly for a safe and comfortable ride.

6. Clean Your Car’s Interior for a Fresh Start

Spring cleaning isn’t just for your home! A clean car interior enhances comfort and hygiene. Disinfect frequently touched surfaces such as:

Steering wheel

Gear stick

Touch screens

Buttons and switches

A well-maintained car not only keeps you safe but also ensures a more enjoyable driving experience. Spring clean your car with Valeo’s trusted products and hit the road with confidence.

IAM Offerings for Hybrid and Electric Vehicles

To support the maintenance and repair of electric and hybrid vehicles in the independent aftermarket, Valeo offers an extensive portfolio of over 6,000 essential references.

This includes filtration systems, wipers, brake pads, discs, calipers, and thermal solutions such as e-compressors, radiators, and condensers. All of these are designed to ensure vehicle reliability and extend service life.

The large range of condensers currently covers more than 8 million electric and hybrid vehicles across Europe, with plans to increase this coverage to 10 million by the end of 2024.

Valeo’s Latest Product Launches: Chillers & Compressors

Valeo announces that its cutting-edge chiller—, crucial for battery thermal management in electric and hybrid vehicles—, is available for the most popular electric vehicle in Europe, the VW ID.3. Additionally, the plan is to launch four new chillers by the second quarter of 2025 designed for Hyundai models like the Ioniq, Kona, and Tucson, as well as the Kia Niro.

Valeo is also expanding its offer for electric and hybrid vehicles with five new electric driven compressors designed specifically to fit the latest "eTech" platform from Renault. This includes the Kadjar, Scenic, Captur, Arkana models, as well as the highly popular Tesla Model 3 and some applications from Kia and Hyundai.

Oil Pumps & 48V Technology

Furthermore, the 48V DC-DC converter references 597202 and 597203, suitable for the Fiat 500, Peugeot 208, Citroen C5, and many other applications, will be launched during the first quarter of 2025.

As 48V technology is mentioned, it’s important to note that Valeo also offers a wide range of 48V iBSG systems. This is crucial as the car park is primarily evolving through mild hybrid vehicles.

Brake Pads, Cables, and Mobile Chargers

With 222 references and 92% electric and hybrid vehicle coverage, Valeo’s new brake pads range will account for over 15 million European vehicles. The e-performance brake pads use soft friction materials composed of carbons and ceramics that absorb noise and vibrations made during braking.

Leading the Way in Electrification | Valeo Service

Leading the Way in Electrification

Showcasing Cutting-Edge Electrification and Innovation

Made up of three parts—a plenary conference in Budapest, onsite workshops and the visit of Valeo’s Veszprém Factory, a multi-products site that specializes in the production of high-voltage technologies and systems for well-known automotive car makers.

The EV Tech Days showcased Valeo’s approach to High Voltage Powertrain Electrification and its associated Thermal Management,48V Hybrid Technology, and EV Training with Valeo's Tech Academy.

The Future is Getting Brighter

By 2030, 93% of all new cars will include a form of electrification and one-third of the European car parc will consist of electrified vehicles (either fully electric or hybrid).

This is good news. Electrification is emerging as the most viable, affordable, and energy-efficient solution to reducing the carbon footprint of the automotive industry, which currently stands at about 18% of global CO2 emissions.

Levels of Electrification

When discussing “electrification,” many immediately think of fully electric vehicles, but it encompasses much, much more.

The current and future car parcs include multiple levels of electrification: low-voltage systems like 48V mild hybrids (combining small electric motors with internal combustion engines for improved fuel efficiency), high-voltage systems like 400V and 800V for both full and plug-in hybrids, and fully electric vehicles.

Valeo’s strength lies in its ability to support all of these levels of electrification.

A Pioneer in Electrification

As a pioneer in electrification for over 20 years, Valeo has continually introduced innovative solutions for electrified vehicles. A brief history shows that:

In 2004, Valeo created the iStARS system, a belt starter/alternator that optimizes Stop-Start functionality.

In 2012, Valeo launched its 48V Belt Starter Generator (iBSG), providing mild-hybrid solutions.

In 2016, Valeo oversaw the creation of the Valeo Siemens eAutomotive JV.

And now, in 2024, Valeo is set to produce the next generation of “rare-earth-free” electric motors with Renault.

As of today, one-third of the world’s vehicles are equipped with Valeo electrics, from alternators right through to high-voltage systems.

Leveling Up Mechanics’ Skills

To meet the evolving needs of the industry, Valeo launched the Valeo Tech Academy, an innovative training program that offers both digital and in-person learning.

With one in two mechanics unable to maintain or repair electric vehicles, Valeo is committed to leveling up and supporting the aftermarket beyond just supplying spare parts.

Ultimately, Valeo’s goal is very simple—to help build the sustainable mobility of tomorrow. And over the course of the EV Tech Days, Valeo was able to demonstrate and share its simple vision for the future.

Valeo EV Tech Days 2024

At Valeo’s EV Tech Days, key customers and journalists from across Europe learned exactly what Valeo’s aftermarket division stands for in terms of electrification.

Valeo Canopy™ Wins German Environmental Award!

Awards Season

Partslife is a German organization that focuses on promoting and implementing sustainable environmental practices like waste management.

Thomas Fischer, the Managing Director of AAMPACT, gave a speech in which he lauded Valeo’s product development and the sustainability of Canopy™ wiper blades.

Resulting in great amounts of CO2 savings, Fischer called on distributors and workshops to make active use of Canopy™, both in Germany and beyond.

What is Valeo Canopy™?

With Valeo Canopy™, Valeo launched a more sustainable wiper blade created differently, with the obsession of reducing the environmental impact without compromising performance. Produced with rubber compound made from over 80% natural, renewable, or recycled materials, Valeo Canopy™ is the first wiper blade to reduce CO₂ emissions by 61% (certified by Bureau Veritas).

Today’s consumers are now taking into account sustainability as well as quality when it comes to their purchases. Valeo Canopy succeeds in being both more sustainable and retaining excellent wiping quality.

Manufactured in France and packaged in recyclable cardboard, Valeo Canopy™ is a holistically created product that reduces environmental impact across the entire supply chain.

Valeo supports a Road Safety NGO

Along with the Partslife Environmental Award, Valeo was given 2,500 euros in prize money. Valeo immediately donated this money to TEILEn e.V. — an NGO that specialises in road safety education for children.

Almost 30,000 children suffer road accidents in Germany every year, a statistic TEILEn e.V. wants to drastically change. And with their “Roter Ritter Mobil” — a traffic school on wheels — they aim to do just that.

Given to police authorities and traffic wardens to use on traffic safety days in day-care centres and schools, these traffic schools are already helping improve road safety in many regions across Germany.

Sustainability = Excellence

With Valeo Canopy™, distributors, workshops, and drivers can be assured that they use a sustainable product with excellent wiping quality.

Thus, choosing German production stands out. Taking advantage of the historical German footprint, SWF Connect production has been relocated in Germany (for 92% of the references), in the Bietigheim-Bissingen factory, in which SWF produces a significant part of the original equipment wiper blades.

A MultiConnection range: complete, patented and easy to fit!

SWF Connect, the premium MultiConnection range is dedicated to customers looking for a high carpark coverage within a short range, addressing front and rear needs with 3 sub-ranges: Front MultiConnection (sold in kits), Upgrade (sold in kits) and Rear. The MultiConnection front flat blade covers a high car park, including vehicles equipped with wet arms (washing systems on wiper arm) and newer Mercedes-Benz applications.

Its patented MultiConnection system enables fast fitting for all customers.

Excellent wiping quality

SWF used its best rubbers for an excellent wiping quality in the Flat Blade category.

For the front category, SWF VisioRubberTM, a bi-compound rubber, combines the advantages of both synthetic (for tearing resistance) and natural rubbers (for soft wiping). This results in excellent wiping performance over time. This rubber is the Valeo Original Equipment (O.E.) standard.

For the rear sub-category, SWF advanced boost Formula with its synthetic rubber and exclusive coating formula from Valeo, enables a robust blade and great performance in the toughest environmental conditions.

An even more silent mid-drive unit

Valeo Cyclee™ 48V mid-drive unit is adaptive and understands what the rider wants. With a 7 speed gear automatic transmission and responding with a 130Nm torque - the highest level available on the market - it boosts all the rides, even the hardest ones.

Valeo Cyclee™ mid-drive unit is now more silent than ever with a noise level of the complete electric propulsion solution reduced of around -7dB. To reach this new level of NVH (noise, vibration & harshness) efficiency, the new version of the Valeo Cyclee™ mid-drive unit presents a new gear geometry, and additional ribs on the cover to smooth the vibrations and additional bridges on stator stacks. With this evolution, Valeo Cyclee™ mid drive unit offers the same noise level as other less powerful solutions.

A new Human-Machine Interface solution

To give its users the best experience, Valeo keeps on improving its solutions. Valeo Cyclee™ introduces a stylish Human-Machine Interface (HMI) solution made of a smart dock, a 2” touch display and a remote with a rotative throttle. The new HMI seamlessly transitions from city to mountain, thanks to multiple assembly positions and a removable display. Valeo smart dock Phone-as-a-Key system also automatically locks the eBike when the rider steps 3 meters away. Although an anti-theft system already existed on the motor gearbox, this new device enhances user safety with a secure, easy-to-use locking system tailored to the needs of e-bike users. This technology brings an answer to the rise of thefts due to the growing value of ebikes.

Aiming to reduce its ecological footprint, this new HMI has been designed for easy assembly and disassembly, and the materials used include up to 30% recycled plastics.

Beyond the design and the selection of more sustainable material, Valeo’s HMI uses Velco Suite, a software suite developed to meet the connectivity and adaptability needs of cyclists, as well as those of bike sales and repair networks.

This software provides connected services through 3 distinct applications:

Assembly Assist module: This WEB application is intended for bike makers and dedicated to the pairing and integration tests of drive unit, battery, connected HMI on bikes at the end of the assembly line. It is also used to report diagnostic information for e-Bikes.

Diagnostic Service module: this web application is intended for bikes shops & dealers to diagnose & calibrate the ebike, update electric kit firmware components and provide drive unit & components providers hotline support towards bike shops.

Rider module: Velco Rider is a white label mobile application for the riders to offer the best riding experience thanks to valuable services. The mobile app can be customized into the ebike's brands.

The complete solution is multi-engine and is aimed at all ebikes brands wanting to offer a digital experience to their customers.

The Valeo Cyclee™ offer includes two HMI versions: an entry pack with the smart dock and remote, and a premium pack by adding the 2” touch display.

Valeo involved in the circular economy of ebikes

In addition to its original equipment activities, Valeo is also involved in the circular economy of ebikes. Valeo and Smovengo, the operator of Vélib' Métropole, the self-service bicycle hire scheme run by the City of Paris and 64 of its communes, have joined forces to recondition the motors and batteries of the 8,000 electric Velibs that ply the streets of Greater/Grand Paris.

Two Valeo sites specialized in reconditioning were selected for the partnership with Smovengo: the “Circular Electronics Laboratory” in Nevers for the batteries, and the “Circular Innovation Factory” in Czechowice (Poland) for the motors.

Retrofitting for the Planet

Retrofitting transforms an I.C.E. vehicle into an electric one by replacing the petrol/diesel engine and fuel tank with an electric motor and battery.

Valeo's 'I Care for the Planet' program aims to reduce the environmental impact of the automotive aftermarket. Thanks to its parts for EV, Valeo contributes to making the switch to electric vehicles easier.

Regulations to Restrictions

Around the world, regulations for emissions have become increasingly severe, and major cities are implementing low-emission zones — and sometimes even outright diesel bans — to combat air pollution and meet climate targets.

Since most light commercial vehicles (LCVs) run on diesel, the ban on entry into cities has a direct impact on many businesses. In order to continue operating, LCV drivers, fleet owners, and small businesses are required to urgently switch to electric vehicles. Since buying new electric vehicles is expensive, retrofit is the perfect alternative.

A Solution is at Hand

To help businesses survive in the city, Valeo, a leading automotive supplier in Electrification, offers a range of products and solutions for electric vehicles (EVs) that can also be used for retrofitting conventional vehicles into EVs:

e-motors

OBC DCDC

Inverters

HV heaters

Electric driven compressors (EDC)

These components can all be integrated into retrofit projects and help convert Internal Combustion Engine (I.C.E.) LCVs into electric ones.

Benefits of Retrofitting

Economics: The cost saving of converting existing vehicles into electric vehicles is estimated to be about 50% the cost of buying a new eLCV*. Not only is buying new electric LCVs expensive, there are also few electric options available.

Environment: Beyond the economic considerations, retrofitting also contributes to automotive decarbonization. Retrofitting LCVs saves at least 50% CO2 emissions over 10 years*. And by not scrapping the vehicle, retrofitting also contributes to the circular economy.

Government Support: In recognition of how retrofitting can be important in transitioning to cleaner transportation, governments are increasingly offering incentives and support programs to facilitate retrofitting. What’s more, some governments, like France, are gradually reducing subsidies for buying new electric vehicles, which further enhances the economic appeal of retrofitting.

Converting I.C.E cars into electric vehicles for a more sustainable future

In Europe, there are more than 30 million active LCVs facing the challenge of entering urban spaces. With its automotive electrification expertise and established relationships, Valeo is well-placed to support the retrofit industry and help convert part of the LCV car parc into electric vehicles for the future.

Retrofitting with Valeo’s electrification technology is a great solution for extending a vehicle’s lifespan and accelerating the global transition to electric mobility.

Electric Retrofit the Valeo Way!

Valeo’s New E-Performance Brake Pads Range

An Electrifying Marketplace

With 222 references and 92% coverage (Hybrid, EV, and PHEV), Valeo’s new brake pads range will account for over 15 million European vehicles.

As electric vehicles become increasingly popular, the number of vehicles on the road continues to grow. According to Frost & Sullivan’s report “European PHEV/BEV Aftermarket Growth Opportunities”, by 2030, 84% of vehicles made in Europe will be electrified and heading towards either 48V or fully electric.

High Grade Materials

While combustion engines are noisy and a bumpy ride, drivers of electric vehicles are able to get the exact driving experience everyone longs for—silent and comfortable. They also get peace of mind. Valeo’s E-performance brake pads use soft friction materials – composed of carbons and ceramics – which absorb noise and vibrations made during braking.

Because of these soft materials, 20-25% less brake dust is produced each time the brake is applied, and the brake pads last longer, helping to avoid vibrations in the steering wheel.

Added to that, Valeo’s EV brake pads incorporate NRS® technology between the friction material and the back plate. This reduces the risk of delamination and increases durability.

Better for the Environment, Better for You…

EV is better for the environment, and governments are starting to take notice. From diesel bans in European cities to thermal engine bans across entire countries, the automotive industry is changing.

As a leader in electrification, Valeo aims to deliver the best possible offer to customers with electrified vehicles, while supporting those drivers who are making the transition to electric. Brake pads are a significant part of that change.

“The strong order intake recorded proves that Valeo has the right positioning and technologies in a rapidly changing sector. This means that our customers trust us to support them in this transformation.” – Christophe Périllat, Valeo CEO

Valeo Service’s Offices in Saint-Denis Undergo Major Renovation

A Reason To Celebrate

With Christophe Périllat (Valeo Group CEO) and Eric Schuler (Valeo Service Activity CEO) in attendance, along with more than two hundred employees, Valeo Service was reminded just how important it is to the Valeo Group.

Time for an Upgrade

As with other Valeo premises in and around Paris, the time had come to refurbish the Saint-Denis offices in Campus Pleyad – a site which has been a part of Valeo’s operation since 2008.

Many Teams, One Location

Located on the northern outskirts of Paris, near the historic birthplace of the Valeo Group (founded in 1923 in Saint-Ouen), Valeo Service Saint-Denis covers 4,000 m² and accommodates 310 employees. Various Valeo Aftermarket teams and support functions are based there.

What’s more, the site hosts Valeo Service's Technical Center, which will soon be welcoming garage employees for face-to-face training as part of the Tech Academy program.

A Collaborative Effort

Eric Schuler felt it incredibly important to listen to employees’ expectations and needs., Each department therefore had the opportunity to express suggestions to an ambassador working in the core team of the “Pleyel Garden” project.

Eric Schuler said: "We have traveled an incredible path to achieve this remarkable result. It is the voice of the employees that has enabled us to reach this very successful outcome: more spaces for socializing and co-working, more vegetation. In short, more pleasant premises for more interactions and even greater efficiency. I would especially like to thank all the ambassadors of this project."

New Spaces

The floor plans were designed to optimize collaboration between departments that often work together, and new spaces created for today’s working methods.

This means spaces that are more comfortable, quieter, more intimate, and more visually pleasing. There are new spaces for both discreet formal and informal conversations, as well as for hybrid meetings, which did not exist before.

Godefroy Cappoen, General Manager, South West Europe Sub-Region, comments “What a difference compared to the former large open spaces we had. The new layouts are more functional with varied spaces. The soundproof partitions also allow us to work more serenely. Relaxation areas also help to maximize exchanges. For well-being, it's definitely a plus.”

Sustainable Building Practices

All of the work on the Pleyel Garden project was done with a sustainable approach in mind. Neon lights were replaced by LED lights, bathrooms renovated to minimize water consumption and IT systems upgraded.

Disposable cups and glasses have been replaced by long-lasting reusable glasses which employees can clean themselves using the Auum technology of disinfection with dry steam heated to over 140°C.

Other improvements include greening office spaces and providing standing desks to every single employee.

Ready for the Future

All in all, the stunning success of the Pleyel Garden Project means a better working environment for Valeo Service employees which, according to Min Zhu, General Manager of Valeo Service Smart Mobility, “inspire collaboration, creativity and well-being! Now we're going to make these spaces our own, creating memorable moments of collective success for the future.”

On May 30th 2024, Valeo Service inaugurated its refurbished offices in Saint-Denis, a site which has been a part of Valeo’s operations since 2008.
